Employment anticipation and game changers of the 2014 –
Industry’s common findings by Indian Staffing Federation


Elections 2014 is around the corner and the most important topic of a jobless growth would be the common agenda for all the political parties. However the slowdown has affected the industry across the globe but an urgency to grow as an economy has been raised by the employers.

As growth momentum continues to shift towards emerging countries like India, its growing knowledge based economy will demand for new and adaptive capabilities with a key focus on leadership skills,revealed in the recent 360* survey by ISF and supportive data of its members.

Employers report considerable Outlook improvements both quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year, with increases of 16 and 15 percentage points, respectively. Hiring plans improve by 8 percentage points when compared with the previous quarter and are 14 percentage points stronger year-over-year.

Henceforth, today’s business leaders believe that success depends on their ability to understand and adapt their workforce at warp speed. When it comes to recruitment, they are certain of who will benefit their organization the most. The survey reveals that in the next one year, 50% of Indian employers are inclined towards recruiting knowledge workers into the organization.

Sector Comparisons

Employers in all seven industry sectors forecast an increase in staffing levels during 2Q 2014.Transportation & Utilities sector employers report the strongest hiring prospects with a Net Employment Outlook of +53%. Dynamic labor markets are also expected in the Services sector and the Wholesale & Retail Trade sector, with Outlooks of +46% and +44%, respectively. Elsewhere, employers in the Finance,Insurance& Real Estate sector report bright hiring plans with an Outlook of +40% while Outlooks stand at+38% in both the Manufacturing sector and the Public Administration & Education sector.

Employers are concerned and planning to create a better labour environment by the best HR practices:

rajashekar When compared with 1Q 2014, employers report stronger hiring prospects in six of the seven industry sectors, with the most noteworthy improvement of 30 percentage points reported by Transportation & Utilities sector employers. The Services sector Outlook is 13 percentage points stronger while an increase of 6 percentage points is reported by Public Administration & Education sector employers. However, employers in the Mining & Construction sector report a 3 percentage Point Outlook decline.Hiring intentions strengthen in all seven industry sectors year-over-year. Transportation & Utilities sector employers report an improvement of 16 percentage points while Outlooks are 15 percentage points stronger in both the Services sector and the Manufacturing sector. The Outlook for the Public Administration & Education sector improves by 14 percentage points. Based on unadjusted survey data, employers expect to increase staffing levels in all seven industry sectors during the April-June period. The most optimistic hiring intentions are reported in the Transportation & Utilities sector and the Wholesale & Retail Trade sector. Employers report improved Outlooks in all seven sectors both quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year.

Other Key Findings:
  • 26% of Indian employers will undertake recruitment in temporary or contract basis to address talent scarcity in the next 5 years.
  • 49% of Indian employers believe the top productivity challenge faced by them in the year ahead would be developing leadership skills among employees to drive business growth.
  • The biggest challenge that talent leaders face in Indian organizations is increasing Workforce performance and productivity which accounts for 19%.
  • 41% of business leaders in India are confident that the education system will deliver the required skills.
  • 50% of the India Inc is confident of recruiting knowledge workers in the next 12 months
  • 34% of Indian employers feel that management's concern about employee productivity is the single biggest barrier to offering flexible work options.
  • 43% of Indian organizations feel that women in leadership positions will be a critical success factor.
Hence, the trends are inclined towards the robust planning not just to hire but to hire the skilled labour with the certain required skills. But the coming quarter is going to see a growth in the trends of employment for a better growth with employment.
